Former Afro Bop saxophonist, Cathy Stiles, is originally
from Hurley, New York, located ninety miles north of New
York City, between the Catskill Mountains and Hudson River.
While attending Kingston High School, she performed with
a variety of musical groups appearing at area resorts in
the Catskills. Upon graduation from Kingston, she moved
to Boston, Massachusetts to study at the Berklee College
of Music. She later attended William Patterson College in
New Jersey, where she had the opportunity to work with Rufus
Reid. In 1985, Cathy joined the United States Navy, performing
with Navy Bands in San Francisco and San Diego, California,
and New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1995 she won a position with
the U.S. Naval Academy Band in Annapolis, Maryland, where
she is a featured soloist with the concert band, "Next
Wave" big band and "Superintendent's Combo".
Cathy resides in the Annapolis area with her husband and
three children.
